Stress… The Fear Factor

We are living in a creative turbulence of genuine evolution struggling to carry on. This world has lost its worth and value. Gone are the days when life was slow, steady, loving and meaningful.

Life in the fast lanes is becoming tiring and miserable with each passing day.
Working under pressure, handling multiple assignments, rapidly changing conditions and meeting tight deadlines is what you need to do in order to earn a living. Very few handful of people manage stress and find their way with a slapdash buoyancy through chaotic situations… what about the remaining…? Well they are thriving on confusion, unable to finish things, overburden of family, checking out financial budgets and just then another whole bunch of problems confront you… its then obvious that the times are harsh, the need is dire and the agony countless…
Who is to be blamed for all this…?
Well, the Human Race… we have ourselves created this situation where the pressure to surpass others has outclassed the necessity of survival. Nowadays you see students are more bothered about their tuition works rather than going to school… The reverse does not happen….
People take to smoking for relaxation, contain psychedelic drugs. If you believe changing these stressful situations is irreversible then as Disraeli says, “ I totally disagree on every word you say but till your death I shall defend your right to say.”
Stressful situations just lead to mental tension, breakdown of the nervous system, disappointment and disorder… we have to just alter our lives a bit and wait and see how it blooms then….
We have to bring out something concrete from the ruins…
Well this is how to do it.
- Plan your schedule for everyday.
- Write it down on piece of paper or diary, which suits best.
- Allot time for particular project/work at hand excuse 15 minutes during beginning and ending for highs and lows if any.
- Think of five different ways in which you can fulfill your one project at hand including influence, contacts {if possible}, same applies to other areas of work of course…(choose the best road visualized.)
- Soak yourself in achieving that task and I tell you solemnly with utmost certainty you will get it.
You don’t need to have the makings of a winner. My friend this is for you commoners who think life’s a living hell and stress is the word to beat etc…
One thing is certain under high heaven if you think you can, it is certain that you will.
Basically if you think you can handle stressful situation and keep your unfinished work finished then 50% of your mind game is done rest 50% is left to you if you want to go the untrodden path to achieve the unimaginable dream.
I do understand we all face unsettling moments and we all have dreams that seem larger than life…have confidence in yourself with determination unmistakable, focus on the task at hand and all things will fall in its place.
Manage your stress level, do some recreation, infact be calm with your project at hand, answer the unanswered, complete the incomplete and only then should you call it day.
See then how the masters will look for you, public will applaud you and critics will praise you…
Wishing you moments of happy, soothing, relaxing days ahead…and many moments of successful endeavors,

Signing off,
Edmond Fernandes.

INDIA - A LAND OF PLENTY

THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED IN “ YUVA” IN AUGUST 08 EDITION

India – a land of plenty

India is clearly the taste of the decade. We are flying high. One can easily witness the changing face of India, but to achieve superstardom it has to go a long way. We as citizens of this nation are solely responsible for the pros and cons this country is facing.
Our lackluster spirit to root out corruption, population check, disciplinary measures, cleanliness so on… are the major catastrophes our country is facing due to which its global prowess is withheld.

True as it was said by vivekananda, “ India is the only place with all its greatness and faults, the soul finds its peace and tranquility”

As we go forth to celebrate Independence Day we can sit back for a few moments and watch India go by. Every citizen of this country plays a major role for change. Indeed change is infectious and everybody big and small is talking of change these days.
But is it really enough? Are we truly devoted?
Well I don’t think so. You will also agree with me, we aren’t.
Neither are we true to ourselves nor are we true to our nation.
India is a multicultural cocktail of various religions, languages, creeds, ethnic groups… etc all rolled into one. To maintain equilibrium all along is difficult but if every person realizes his ideals, value and worth and marches forward to volunteer his bit to the nation then it’s beyond doubt that India as a nation and we as citizens can be world beaters.
We have all the superstars and inspirations we ever wanted.
Gandhi in politics, Ratan Tata in industry, Kalam (dual nature) politics cum nuclear science, Kapil Dev in cricket, Dhyan chand in Hockey, Dr.C.V. Raman in physics (Nobel Prize), Mother Teresa in charity….we have it all.
History is witness to our supremacy.
As we go all forward and prepare ourselves to celebrate our independence let us look back at the areas we have failed and at the same time look forward to improving ourselves and our fellowmen for the better.
Wishing you all a happy independence day ahead and celebrate the true spirit of Indianess… vande mataram.

DAYS OF TURMOIL

THIS ARTICLE WAS PUBLISHED IN THE JUNE 09 EDITION OF “ MILARCHEM MILAN “

Days of Turmoil . . .

The Veneer of culture and good manners, of brilliant ceremonies and elaborate etiquettes are far more than over. We are living in challenging times. This world has lost its sense of worth and value.
We are basically revolving in planet that does not know its destination.

The agony is infinite, the times are harsh the need is urgent to rediscover grounds of peace, tranquility and hope. The recent issues like the swine flu outbreak; Taliban capturing Buner and retreating; the tension in Swat Valley; Global recession-where millions are becoming jobless; Communal tensions; Melting of glaciers @ rapid speed; Changing climatic conditions; Oil barrels falling below $50 etc…. on and on… These situations are scary.
The dangers which are confronting us have exposed us not only to hideous suffering but even to mortal peril. It’s becoming our passport to disaster!!
People are seeking for less precarious forms of existence going about in strange paradoxes decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute. The youth are losing their very purpose of existence; depression, competition, burden of circumstances are getting the better of them. The pressure to excel has superceded the necessity of survival.

On the same note, the people who are working and gaining their daily bread are stressed out and find an excuse to run away from it.
Managing deadlines, multiple assignments etc are indeed a method in madness…

True that we are living in creative turmoil of a genuine civilization struggling to be born but there is still hope for a better tomorrow providing we act. A finer land, a better people, a more noble civilization is possible… but each one of us must be inspired with a renewed dedication to humanity. We have to put forth our views, call for small community meetings; discuss solutions for the need of the hour; express our views through the Media; speak out and bend a new together for a supreme effort. Simply sitting and criticizing won’t help; we have to act: our time is now.

Please friends, think of it in this light. Do not hesitate; do not fear or else you are doomed. For a moment we might wonder, “If I do my bit, it won’t make a difference It’s a mighty world”. But, I tell you solemnly One dream can change a nation, one spark can inspire hope, ONE MAN CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The day will dawn when fair play, love for one’s follow men, respect for justice and freedom will enable tormented generations to go ahead serene and victorious from the ruins in which we dwell. Meanwhile do your bit and never despair.
